Government advice on moving homes during COVID-19

13 May 2020

After weeks of speculations, The Ministry of Housing has updated the guidance on selling and buying properties this morning.

As iMOVEHOME operates digitally, we have stayed open taking instructions, managing enquiries and closely monitoring the situation on the property market. Still, our commitment was to support the advice from the medical professionals and observe social distancing rules.

The new guidelines suggest, however, that open house viewings should be avoided and - if possible - the homeowners should embrace virtual tours. Which we can obviously help with.

Ok, so can I view my dream home?

According to the government document published this morning (click to read full guidelines)

"People should use virtual viewings before visiting properties in person where possible, in order to minimise public health risks. If any member of either the household being viewed, or the household undertaking a viewing is showing symptoms of coronavirus or is self-isolating, then a physical viewing should be delayed. All viewings should take place by appointment and only involve members of a single household."

Further advice encourages people to conduct property searches online, physical viewings should only be done by appointment, and the seller should provide handwashing facilities.

Additionally, to avoid contamination between households, after each viewing the homeowner should ensure that the most exposed surfaces, such as door handles, are cleaned with household disinfectants.
